Start with your building

A project that fits your operations.

Gyms and recreation buildings can combine exercise floors, studios, locker rooms, offices, and pools. Those spaces need a project plan based on their actual equipment and hours of use. We help owners and facility managers document the planned improvements and identify which commercial rebate offerings deserve review. Start with the operating areas affected by the work and any access constraints around classes or member hours. A pool pump, rooftop unit, or lighting project should each be checked against its own program requirements rather than assumed eligible because it serves a recreation property.

What determines eligibility?

  • A qualifying commercial electric account is the starting point; private, nonprofit, and public facilities may need different program routes.
  • CPS Energy lists qualifying ENERGY STAR pool pumps among its commercial measures. Austin Energy equipment should be screened under its own motor and other applicable offerings.
  • Pool systems, ventilation, and moisture-control requirements remain part of the facility design and should not be changed solely to pursue an incentive.

Your utility confirms eligibility, approved measures, incentive amounts, and funding. Review requirements before purchasing or installing equipment.

Plan around your people

Make the work easier to coordinate.

A useful scope accounts for access, equipment, and the people who use the property each day.

Describe each activity area

Identify studios, fitness floors, courts, pools, and support areas so the equipment inventory reflects the building’s uses.

Use the class calendar

Share member hours, class schedules, and planned closures when establishing assessment and work windows.

Document specialist systems

Include pool and environmental-control specifications for review with the facility’s responsible design and operations team.

Questions from property teams

Know what to ask before you begin.

Can a community recreation center be reviewed?

Yes. Public or nonprofit ownership needs to be considered along with the account, equipment, and applicable utility route. A building’s public use does not automatically approve its measures.

Are pool pumps eligible in both utility programs?

CPS Energy explicitly lists qualifying pool pumps. Austin Energy projects need review under its own applicable offerings; CPS Energy’s equipment list should not be transferred to another utility.

Can upgrades be planned around classes?

Share the class calendar and closure constraints early. They can inform the proposed access and installation plan after the utility’s documentation and approval requirements are established.
