Start with your building

A project that fits your operations.

A data-center energy project needs a defined technical scope and a clear view of how the facility operates. Dedicated facilities and server rooms within office buildings should be assessed in context, with cooling, power systems, and supporting spaces identified separately. We help owners and facility teams organize proposed upgrades for utility review while keeping uptime and change-control requirements with the responsible operations team. Start before equipment is selected or a baseline is lost. For specialized efficiency proposals, the measurement approach and utility acceptance need to be established early.

What determines eligibility?

  • Commercial electric service and the specific proposed equipment determine the starting pathway; the data-center label does not qualify all systems.
  • Austin Energy publishes a high-efficiency UPS offering. CPS Energy power-system projects need review under its own applicable measures or custom pathway.
  • Confirm treatment of redundant or backup equipment and the technical baseline with the utility. Do not assume ordinary commercial equipment rules cover every critical system.

Your utility confirms eligibility, approved measures, incentive amounts, and funding. Review requirements before purchasing or installing equipment.

Where to look for improvements

Consider the whole building.

Start with these opportunities for data centers and server facilities. The program pages below cover the broader measure lists and utility requirements.

Cooling and associated equipment

Screen eligible cooling replacements, motors, and control improvements against the facility’s documented operating plan.

High-efficiency UPS review

For Austin Energy properties, evaluate the published UPS offering and its product, efficiency, and documentation requirements.

Custom energy projects

Develop a defined scope and proposed measurement approach for efficiency work requiring project-specific utility review.

Your utility. Your next step.

Choose the program serving your electric account. An Austin or San Antonio mailing address alone does not establish eligibility.

Plan around your people

Make the work easier to coordinate.

A useful scope accounts for access, equipment, and the people who use the property each day.

Define the system boundary

Identify the loads, equipment, meters, and spaces affected by the proposed change before calculating potential savings.

Preserve baseline records

Gather operating trends, equipment specifications, load information, and planned capacity changes before existing systems are altered.

Coordinate change control

Establish the facility’s design, testing, redundancy, and maintenance-window requirements with its responsible technical team.

Questions from property teams

Know what to ask before you begin.

Can a server room within an office building be assessed?

Yes. We first establish the equipment, utility account, and system boundary. The proposed scope is then reviewed under the serving utility’s applicable commercial offerings.

Do both utilities offer the same UPS rebate?

No. Austin Energy explicitly publishes a UPS offering. A CPS Energy project must be evaluated under its own current measures and any appropriate custom criteria.

Does a rebate application approve a critical-system design?

No. Utility review does not replace the facility’s engineering, reliability, commissioning, or change-control decisions. Those requirements must be established independently as part of the project.
